Hartwick Suffers Loss on the Road at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY Hartwick senior midfielder Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon HS) poured in a career-high six goals on Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Hawks fell to host SUNY New Paltz 21-8 on Saturday at Turf Field in New Paltz. 'Wick slips to 3-2 overall. New Paltz improves to 4-2.

Kennedy registered six of Hartwick's first seven goals on the day. She added two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick HS) and Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) also tallied for Hartwick. Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown HS) added an assist.

New Paltz would break the ice 1:15 into the game on the first shot of the game. Samantha DelGaudio provided the free-position goal for the Hawks.

The game remained 1-0 for the next 10 minutes of action. The hosts, who held a 7-3 edge in shots in the span, would fire seven shots on Hartwick keeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs HS), but she stopped five of them to keep it a one-goal game. All three 'Wick attempts were off-target.

New Paltz started a rally with 18:35 remaining. The host Hawks would tack on four scores in the next 4:16 to take a 5-0 lead.

Kennedy answered for 'Wick 17 seconds after New Paltz's fifth tally to cut the deficit to four and the game remained 5-1 until under eight minutes remaining in the first half.

The hosts took command in the late stages of the half as they scored 10 times in the final 7:38. Four goals in a 2:28 span made it 9-1, but Kennedy scored on a free-position goal for her fourth of the season for Hartwick's second tally.

New Paltz added three scores and it appeared 'Wick would make it into halftime down by single-digits. The host Hawks, however, put further distance between themselves and 'Wick with four late goals in the final 40 seconds of the half.

Hartwick responded with three of the first four goals of the second half. Kennedy found the net with 21:55 left and she was set up by Littleton 14 seconds later. Scicchitano scored unassisted at 19:37 to make the score 16-5.

The two teams traded goals over the next 10 minutes. Kennedy scored both Blue and White goals before New Paltz registered three of the game's final four goals over the final nine minutes. Sisco closed out the day's scoring with her third score of the year.

New Paltz held advantages in shots (38-21), draws (19-11), and ground balls (30-27) in the game. Luce would close the game with 11 saves for Hartwick. She also had a season- and game-high 11 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Stefanie Mignone made seven stops for New Paltz.

DelGaudio, Erin Tornatore, Carissa Citro, Talia Tesler, Lianne Valdivia, and Juli Rehain each had three goals for the victors. Tornatore also grabbed eight draws and caused three turnovers.

Freshman defender Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles HS) secured five ground balls for 'Wick. She also tied for a game-high with three caused turnovers. Morgan Hall (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern HS) also caused two New Paltz turnovers for the Hawks.

Hartwick returns to action on Tuesday. The Hawks host Keuka College at Wright Stadium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
