Wolverines Start Slow, Can't Catch the Spartans

DOVER, Del. Wesley gave up the game's first six goals and was unable to recover, as they fell to York (Pa.), 14-9 in a rainy Saturday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The loss drops the Wolverines to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Tim Dougherty tallied a team and career-high five points on two goals and three assists while Scott Brozey and Joe Donato also scored a pair. Brozey also added an assist for three total points.

Defensively, Matt Ryan made nine saves while David Gorksi caused a team-high three turnovers. Anthony Devone, Dougherty, Payton Rose, and Dan Tryon also caused a pair of turnovers as Ryan Morris had a team-high four ground balls.

Donato got Wesley on board with 13:08 left in the second period off a pass from Dougherty but YCP responded with a pair of quick goals to take an 8-1 advantage with nine minutes left in the half. Drew Hammer then fed Tony South for a score just over a minute later and Dougherty scored off a Brozey assists to cut the deficit to 8-3 with 5:21 remaining.

The Spartans closed out the half on a 3-1 run to go into the break leading 11-4. Wesley outscored York, 2-0 in the third quarter as Brozey scored a pair of goals but YCP stopped the bleeding with three straight goals in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Tyler Hutson led the Spartans with six points on three goals and three assists while Justin Aita scored four goals and added an assists. Tyler Powell earned the victory in net by stopping four shots in 44:53 before giving way to Joey Bellavia.

The Wolverines return to the field on Wednesday, March 28, when they host Stevenson University in a 4:00 pm CAC matchup.
