Towson Takes CAA Victory over Delaware

The Blue Hens will look to regain their winning ways and post their first conference win of the season this coming Saturday when they host league foe Drexel at Delaware Stadium.

Tyler Barbarich and John Austin added goals for the Hens while John Mills and Mark Yetter contributed assists. Delaware used three goalkeepers on the night with starter Chris Herbert registering nine saves in the first half.

After trailing the entire game, the Blue Hens fought back and pulled to within 10-8 with 8:30 left to play after consecutive goals from Diachenko and Jones. But Towson answered right back to pull away as DeNapoli scored with 6:56 left and then tallied again with 5:15 remaining. Another goal by Hodgson with 4:36 left to play iced the victory for the Tigers.

Towson scored the first three goals of the game before the Hens recovered and used two goals by Diachenko and one by Austin to cut the gap to a single goal after one period. A goal by Jones with 7:54 left in the first half helped pull UD to within 5-4, but Towson scored the final two goals of the half to take a 7-4 lead into the break.

A goal by Barbarich narrowed the gap to 7-5 early in the second half but Towson answered with two straight goals and led by at least three goals before Delaware made its final run that fell short.
