Trio of Hat Tricks Leads Oberlin Past Waynesburg

Waynesburg, Pa. Oberlin College started their six-game road trip in grand fashion, cruising to a 13-3 victory over Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Yeowomen continued their torrid start as they ran their record to 5-0 on the young season.

The Oberlin offense was led by a trio of hat tricks. Senior Alice Zicht, sophomore Sarah Andrews and rookie Kate Hanick all scored three goals in the contest. Zicht and Andrews also added an assist each to finish with four points on the day.

Additionally, Ilyssa Meyer, Bronwen Schumacher, Molly Bloom and Phoebe Hammer all added one score in the victory.

The first Oberlin goal of the game came at the 19:12 mark when Andrews finished off a pass from Bloom. After a Yellow Jackets goal to even things, Oberlin took over from there, scoring the next seven goals to lead 9-1 at the break.

The Yeowomen started the second half with three more scores to make it 10 in a row before Waynesburg could answer, but it was too little too late to threaten any comeback attempt.

Oberlin out-shot the Yellow Jackets 25-10 and won 12 of the game's 17 draw controls. OC also won the ground ball battle by a 16-12 count.

Madeleine O'Meara played all 60 minutes in the cage and made five saves. Hannah Christiansen also had a fine defensive effort with a team-high four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.

The Yeowomen will go right back to work tomorrow afternoon when they take on St. Vincent College. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
