Oberlin Continues Winning Ways at Saint Vincent

Latrobe, Pa. Oberlin College turned in a great all-around effort en route to knocking off the St. Vincent College Bearcats, 12-8, on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeowomen caused 16 turnovers on the defensive end and was led offensively by rookie Kat Hanick and junior Molly Bloom as they each scored four goals in the contest. Hanick has deposited a team-best 22 goals during this six-game winning streak to start the season, while Bloom is close behind with 18 finishes of her own.

At 6-0 on the season, Oberlin has already surpassed its win total from last year by two games and is off to its best start in school history.

"This was a dog fight here today," Head Coach Jacqueline McDevitt said. "It was so awesome though as we battled so hard and were able to earn this win."

The Yeowomen fell behind in the early going, but Bloom tied it at three all at the 8:33 mark. It started a run of four straight Oberlin scores, with one more coming from Bloom and two from Illyssa Meyer to make it a 7-3 Oberlin advantage at the break.

The Bearcats battled back in the early part of the second session to get within one, 7-6, but Oberlin responded with four goals in a row to secure the win. Hanick cashed in two of them, while Lori Sako, who had a team-high four draw controls, and Alice Zicht added the others.

The Yeowomen out-shot the Bearcats 21-19 and won the ground ball battle 20-16. OC also had a slight 12-10 edge in draw controls.

Oberlin returns to action on March 29 at North Central College.
