Wolves Routed by the Visiting Bears

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry fell 21-1 to the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears despite 11 saves by junior goalkeeper Alex Hatch.

Lenoir-Rhyne (10-3) opened the game with goal a little over three minutes into the game before scoring 13 straight to enter halftime up 13-0 over the Wolves (2-6).

As the second half began neither team was able to find the back of the net during the opening ten minutes, before just shy of 11 minutes into the half Newberry freshman Nikki Colwell (Greer, S.C.) scored the Wolves' lone goal of the afternoon. L-R tallied eight goals in the second half before time expired in the game.

Newberry was led offensively by Colwell's goal on five attempts, four of which were on frame. Newberry freshman Victoria Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) led the Wolves with three ground balls, while senior Kristin Stensholt (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) controlled three draws. On defense, freshman Elise Sanchez (Tujunga, Calif.) forced a pair of L-R turnovers.

Newberry is off for almost two weeks before returning to action on April 7, when the Wolves travel to Savannah, Ga. for a meeting with the Bees of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
