Saint Michael's Gives Way to Big Franklin Pierce Run

RINDGE, N.H. - Saint Michael's twice countered goals by Franklin Pierce during the early portion of Tuesday's contest before six straight markers by the Ravens propelled them to an 8-4 Northeast-10 Conference victory on Sodexo Field. The Purple Knights fell to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the league, while Franklin Pierce improved to 4-1 and 2-0 thus far this spring.

Junior Caitlin Mahoney (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset), sophomores Crystal King (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and Claire Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang), and freshman Kate Boyer (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) each scored for the visitors, while sophomore Caroline Casper (Norfolk, Mass./Thayer Academy) dished out two assists. Mahoney also controlled four draws, while senior Sandy Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) made 10 saves and picked up five ground balls. The teams stood even in shots at 21 and in ground balls at 27.

Junior Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) paced the Ravens with a hat trick and an assist, while two others scored twice apiece. Senior Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) stopped 10 shots.

After the hosts broke on the board at 24:50 of the opening half, King tallied her 11th marker of the season 44 seconds later, and Martin responded to a Weber goal by knotting the contest at 19:07. From that point, Franklin Pierce blanked the visitors until fewer than five minutes remained, as Weber scored twice and assisted during an ensuing 6-0 run. Casper assisted Boyer with 4:27 remaining and Mahoney at 57 seconds, but the Purple Knights came no closer.

Saint Michael's heads to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
