Widlake, Kennedy Lead Raiders Over the Rams
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Bennett Widlake had five goals and Courtney Kennedy added four to lead Shippensburg to a 21-5 win over Shepherd University in action at Shippensburg on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders also got three goals apiece from Lauren Hauck and Kayla Dalzell and a game-high five assists from Lindsey Kennedy.
Sophomore attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) recorded a pair of goals to lead the Rams.
Sophomore attack Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana), freshman attack Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty), and freshman attack Hayley Roper (California, MD/Leonardtown) each added a goal.
Shippensburg opened the game on a 5-0 run and held a 14-3 lead at the break.
Freshman netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded six saves for the Rams, while Ali Cross had 10 saves for Shippensburg.
Shippensburg had a 31-16 advantage in shots with a 22-14 edge in ground balls. The Lady Raiders had a 17-10 edge in draw controls.
Shepherd falls to 8-3 on the season, while Shippensburg improves to 4-2. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
