Oswego State Falls on the Road at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. Oswego State was outscored 12-3 in the second half, as Clarkson (3-2) cruised to a 19-8 win Tuesday afternoon. Seniors Erin Cummings (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Rachael Raffa (Kings Park, N.Y.) posted four and three goals, respectively, for the Lakers (1-1), while the Golden Knights' Alyssa Cristaldi registered six goals and four assists for the victors.

Cummings opened the contest with two goals in the first minute to put the Lakers on top 2-0 with assists going to Raffa and Kaila Curatalo (So., Rochester, N.Y.). Raffa followed up with Oswego State's third goal after receiving a feed from Becky Guess (Fr., Burnt Hills, N.Y.). However, Clarkson answered back with three goals of its own from Cristaldi, Saryn Campbell, and Laura Barlow before ten minutes had elapsed.

Raffa posted an unassisted goal with 18:04 remaining in the first half before the Golden Knights tallied three more goals to go ahead, 6-4. Raffa netted her third goal of the game minutes later to cut the deficit in half, but Clarkson's Campbell scored with three minutes left in the frame to give the Golden Knights a 7-5 lead at halftime.

Clarkson opened the second half with five consecutive goals in the opening seven minutes of the stanza with two markers coming from Katie VanDeValk to create a 12-5 advantage. Cummings stopped the stretch with 21:59 on the clock. Cristaldi scored three of the next six Golden Knight goals as Clarkson took an 18-6 lead. Corinne Marsh (So., Endwell, N.Y.) and Raffa tacked on goals near the end of regulation, as the score was 19-8 when the horn sounded.

Defensively, Oswego State was led by Elise Tartaglia (So., Liverpool, N.Y.), who registered four ground balls and three caused turnovers. In goal, Lauren Marois (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) suffered the loss after posting four goals and allowing ten goals in just under 20 minutes. Ashlee Engel (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) tallied six saves and gave up eight goals in over 26 minutes, while Nicole Nalle (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.) recorded two saves and one allowed goal in over 13 minutes.

Clarkson's Hannah Walters and Kara DiNatale combined to make 10 saves.

Oswego State has to regroup fast as it travels to Utica to face the Pioneers Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
