Minnesota-Duluth Add 10 Recruits for the 2013 Season

Duluth, MN; March 26, 2012 -- Minnesota-Duluth has announced its first wave of incoming freshmen for the 2013 season. All 10 players are from Minnesota and represent nine different high schools and three club programs from around the Twin Cities.

Assistant Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator Scott Stark knows these players well and noted about them as a group "They are a uniquely talented class - We feel they will fit in our system and make an impact early in their careers. These nine guys are exactly what we were looking for and I am personally excited to watch these guys grow as college players".

These additions plus several other student-athletes to be announced at a later date share the passion and the vision our current players and coaching staff has for lacrosse at UMD. A short summary of each player follows:

Jon Dryke | Minnetonka High School- Jon will join the Bulldogs in their 2013 campaign after he finishes his career as a three year varsity letterman on defense for Minnetonka High School. Over the summer Jon was a member of Minnesota Elite. During his time as a Skipper he was named Second Team All-State during his junior year, along with being voted defensive captain for his senior year. At 6'3"and a very mobile 240 pounds "Jon is not only a physical defensemen but he is also a very intelligent player" commented recruiting coordinator Scott Stark.

In addition to lacrosse Jon was also a team captain and defensive tackle on Minnetonka's football team. Jon is excited about attending UMD, commenting, "I picked UMD because I like the school, and I knew this was a program I wanted to be a part of."

Blake Brogberg | Apple Valley High School - Blake will also be joining the Bulldogs on the defensive side of the field for the 2013 season. He is a 6'3 225lb close defensemen from Apple Valley, Minnesota. At Apple Valley, he will be a four time varsity player for the Eagles when he graduates. Blake played with the JaxxFrost club program this past summer. During that time, he was selected to play in the all-star game for the Chicago Lacrosse Cup. Assistant head coach Sam Litman has seen Blake and commented, "We are extremely excited to add Blake to our defense. We are looking for him to make an immediate impact with his dominating size and mobility." When asked why he picked Duluth, Blake commented, "I picked Duluth for the location and the school. It's a perfect fit for me to get a good education while playing for a team that I want to play for. I also feel Coach Clark's philosophy and coaching style is a great fit for me."

Frankie Nesser | Totino-Grace High School - As a multiple year starter at attack for Totino-Grace, Frankie has been a stalwart for that program. He emerged his sophomore season where, during the 2010 section playoffs, he led his team in points (14). His emergence help propel the Golden Eagles advance to the state tournament - where they eventually took 2nd place. Frankie will be rejoining three former teammates in Duluth. Frankie is a strong power dodger with quick feet and great vision.

Coach Clark commented "Frankie has been someone we have been watching for a few years grow as a player. His ability to play big in big games is an attribute we look for in a recruit - and Frankie has played well in big games. "

Jake Heppner| Eastview High School - As a junior, Jake had 43 regular season points in 12 games for Eastview while receiving all-conference honors in the highly competitive South Suburban Conference. Jake played attack and midfield for the JaxxFrost club program this past summer where he was selected to the all-star game in the Chicago Lacrosse Cup while also being one of the team's leading scorers for Rutgers MVP tournament. "Jake possesses a strong offensive skill set which will serve him well at the collegiate level. " commented recruiting coordinator Scott Stark.
