Baez's Big Day Not Enough; Post Loses to Georgian Court

WATERBURY, Conn. Despite a career-high five goals and third straight game with at least three points by freshman Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.), Post lost to two-time defending CACC champion Georgian Court in a conference game at LaMoy Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fell to 1-8 this year and 0-6 in the CACC.

Baez's scoring output matched a game-high as the Lions' Molly McCourt turned in a five-goal game to lead Georgian Court (6-1, 5-0 CACC). Baez went 2 for 3 on free-position attempts. Graduate student Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn.) and junior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) each scored goals for Post.

Georgian Court opened the game on a 9-1 run over the first 11:58 of the contest, with the lone Post tally from the stick of Baez with 21:26 to play in the opening period. After Kanavy made the score 9-2 with 15:59 remaining in the first half, the Lions scored seven unanswered goals to close the half with a 16-2 advantage.

Baez scored four of Post's five goals in the second half, including three in a row to kick-start a 4-0 Eagles' run. The stretch, which spanned 10:15, closed with a Michalak tally to pull Post within 13, 20-7. Georgian Court's Mary Lynn Hankins wrapped up the scoring on a free-position goal with 1:05 to play.

Senior Michelle Chadwick (Miami, Fla.) made nine saves in the loss for Post.

The Eagles will wrap up a three-game homestand on Sunday, April 1, when they host Philadelphia in a CACC game. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
