Shenandoah Drops Heartbreaker to Neumann

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Neumann scored the final five goals of the game Wednesday to rally for a 7-6 CSAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.

Shenandoah (0-10, 0-2 CSAC) led 6-2 at the 9:25 mark of the third thanks to an unassisted goal by junior Bryan Pope, but could not hang on against the Knights (4-5, 2-0).

Neumann knotted the contest at 6-6 with the final four goals of the third, and then got the game-winner from Ryan O'Kane with 2:04 remaining.

SU, which had take 30 shots in the first 45 minutes, was held to just six in the final stanza. NU goalkeeper Andrew Neubauer had three of his 12 saves on the day in the fourth to help the Knights steal the victory.

After Neumann had jumped out to a 2-0 lead wiht two goals in the opening five minutes, the Hornets reeled off six straight from the 7:38 mark of the first until Pope's tally 5:35 into the third.

The four-goal lead is the largest Shenandoah has enjoyed this season.

Pope, David Estoclet and Mac Hedrick all had two goals each during this run with Estoclet also setting up Hedrick on one occasion.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Tyler Quinn had six of his 11 saves in the second half.

Neumann outshot SU 39-36 with Shenandoah holding a 38-31 advantage in groundballs.

The Knights won 11 of 17 draws at the faceoff 'x'.

The Hornets host Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday at 2:00 in another CSAC contest.
