Dussinger Scores Four to Lead Denison by W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. Kiersten Dussinger scored four goals and dished out one assist to lead Denison to a 15-5 victory over Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

W&J (5-3) scored the opening goal of the match after junior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) found the back of the net six minutes in, but the Big Red (6-3) dominated from that point.

Denison ended the first half with eight unanswered goals to post a seven-goal lead. Dussinger scored twice in the opening half and added one assist.

The Presidents clawed their way back into the match with the first four goals of the second half. Senior midfielder Brittany Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) netted two goals, while Fradkin and senior attacker Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) also scored to bring the Presidents to within 8-5 with 21:07 remaining.

However, Denison regrouped and ended the match with seven consecutive goals. Dussinger stopped the Presidents' rally with a goal at the 20:06 mark and three goals during a two-minute span five minutes later sealed the Big Red triumph.

Ten different Denison players scored, including Lisa Feroli, who also handed out three assists. Grace Bodenmann made eight saves in goal for the Big Red, who outshot W&J by a 29-21 count.

Junior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) made 11 saves for the Presidents.

W&J hopes to snap its two-game losing streak to North Coast Athletic Conference opponents on Saturday when hosting Kenyon at 2:00 pm. Saturday is the Presidents' RED OUT game.

Denison won its sixth game of the season on Wednesday, thanks to a four goal, one assist effort from Kiersten Dussinger. The Big Red topped Washington & Jefferson, 15-5 in Washington, Pa.

The Presidents got things going when Brittany Fradkin scored the first goal of the game six minutes into the contest. That lead wouldn't last long as Molly Sbrega struck back 25 seconds later, tying the game at 1-1. Sbrega's goal would spark an 8-0 run by the Big Red to close out the first half.

In the second half, W&J rallied with a 4-0 run in the opening nine minutes of the period, but Denison would close things out over the final 20 minutes, going on a 7-0 run to end the contest at 15-5.

Dussinger scored twice in the first half and twice in the second half off only six shot attempts. Sbrega and Carly Tschantz followed with two goals and one assist and overall, 10 different Denison players got in the scoring act.

Tschantz paced DU with eight draws and five ground balls while Molly Cornbrooks contributed four draw controls.

Denison outshot the Presidents, 29-21 and gathered 15 draws to Washington & Jefferson's seven. Grace Bodenmann played 60 minutes in goal and recorded eight saves. W&J's Julia McLellan finished with 11 saves.

DU improves to 6-3 while Washington & Jefferson falls to 5-3. Denison will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on April 3 when they host Oberlin at 5:00 p.m.
