Washington & Jefferson Cruises to Win at Bethany
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Washington & Jefferson freshman attacker Zach Wootton (Westminster, Md./Glenelg Country School) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Presidents to a 16-1 victory at Bethany on Wednesday night.
The Presidents (2-7) snapped a four-game losing streak after receiving six saves from senior goalie Matt Landfried (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia), who played all 60 minutes.
W&J led 4-0 after the first quarter and took a 7-0 edge into halftime. Landfried's shutout bid ended when Vince Frammartino scored for the Bison (1-7) with 13:23 remaining.
Wootton added one assist, while senior attacker Andrew Wallick (Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) also collected six points with two goals and four assists. Freshman attacker Tim Angell (Andover, Mass./Governor's Academy) racked up five points (3g, 2a), while junior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho, Bishop Kelly) notched three goals and one assist.
Senior midfielder Jake Lippert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), junior midfielder Dylan Haas (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) and sophomore midfielder Casey Smallwood (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) all added one goal.
W&J outshot the Bison by a 54-15 margin and used a 52-31 advantage in ground balls. C.J. Studnicky made 18 saves in the loss for BC.
Washington & Jefferson returns to conference play on Saturday when traveling to the nation's capital to take on Catholic at 2:30 pm.
