Mount Saint Vincent Falls to Kean

Yonkers, N.Y. Mount Saint Vincent was downed on Wednesday by visiting Kean by a score of 14-8. Junior Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored three times and junior goalie Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) made 10 saves.

The two teams went back-and-forth over the first 12-plus minutes of the opening frame and alternated the first six scores. Mount Saint Vincent would never lead but a goal from Flores and two tallies from Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) each answered one goal deficits for the Mount.

With the scored tied at 3-3, Ciara Mastrodomenico scored two straight to push the Cougars in front for good by a score of 5-3. Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I) would get the Dolphins to within a goal with 3:22 to play before halftime, but Julie Knodt tallied her second of the half to send Kean to the break leading 6-4.

Coming out of halftime, Flores got the Mount on the board and to within a goal again just 14 seconds into the half with her second of the game. Lyndsey Cannon would respond with three straight and the Cougars potted the next five overall to pull away to an 11-5 advantage.

The Dolphins would get back to within four on goals from Diana Lawless (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Ramsden, but that would be as close as they would get as Kean scored three of the final four goals of the contest.

Cannon dominated for Kean after scoring seven goals, scooping eight groundballs, causing six turnovers and winning five draw controls. Mastrodomenico and Knodt each scored three times for the Cougars, while Kat Halasz and Meghan Schneck each handed out a pair of assists.

Flores added four draw controls and three caused turnovers to her scoring output on Wednesday. Lawless finished the night with three points after handing out a pair two assists to go along with two groundballs and three draw controls.

Fraser continued her strong rookie season for the Mount with her two tallies and she also chipped in with three groundballs. Ramsden added three caused turnovers and a groundball to her two markers.

Both goalies had strong outings on Wednesday with Miller making a season-high 10 saves, including six in the first half. She also picked up three groundballs for the Dolphins. Jules Keeley made all six of her saves in the second half and scooped two groundballs.

Kean finished the night with a 29-18 advantage in shots and picked up 32 groundballs to 23 for the Dolphins. The Cougars also posted a 13-11 edge in draw controls in the contest.

With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-5 overall on the season and to 1-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will return to action again on Sunday when they play host to non-conference foe Wesley. Opening Draw is set for 2:00 p.m. at Riverdale Country Day School.
