Oberlin Sneaks by Alvernia in Overtime

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 28, 2012) - Sophomore Colin Gallagher (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored the equalizer with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but Oberlin (2-4) won the opening face off in the extra period and scored in just over a minute to defeat Alvernia (5-3), 4-3 Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Senior goalie Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was solid in net for the Crusaders shutting out the Yoemen in the first half with 10 saves. He finished the night with 18 saves.

Alvernia took an early lead on a goal from Brian Ray (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) in the first quarter. It was the only goal of the first half and the Crusaders led 1-0 at halftime.

Oberlin broke through two minutes into the third quarter and tallied again six minutes later for a 2-1 lead, but Alvernia answered with a man-up goal from Daniel Frantz (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) midway through the fourth. Oberlin answered that quickly to take the 3-2 lead, but Gallagher was able to convert to force the extra frame.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday when it hosts Misericordia University.
