Page's Goals Spark RPI Past Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Marissa Page (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) scored goals 63 seconds apart midway through the first half to spark visiting Rensselaer to a 14-4 victory over the University of Rochester in action at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Page's goals snapped a 2-2 tie and helped the Engineers to a 5-2 lead at halftime. She finished with three scores, completing the hat trick with a goal 10 minutes into the second half. Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had two goals and two assists. Madeline Sisson (Rochester, NY/Mercy), Rachel Scofield (Albany, NY/South Colonie), and Julia Wright (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored two goals apiece.

Liza Maizel (New Milford,, CT/New Milford) scored two goals apiece for Rochester, both from the free position. Keegan Kennedy (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Bridget Hannon (Riverside, IL/St. Ignatius College Prep) had single goals.

Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter) made nine saves in goal for RPI. Maddie Elia (Thousand Oaks, CA/Thousand Oaks) had five saves for Rochester.

This was the Liberty League opener for each school. RPI improved to 6-0 overall, 1-0 in the league. Rochester is 1-5, 0-1 in the league.

The Engineers held a 25-17 advantage in shots, 19-13 in shots on goal. RPI converted two of three free position shots (Maguire and Scofield). Rochester was two of six with Maizel scoring both goals.

Rochester caused 11 turnovers, led by Karen Sholler (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) with three and Lindsey Randall with two (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon). RPI caused nine turnovers two apiece by Sisson and Hannah Kaplan (Danbury, CT/Danbury). Maguire won four draw controls for RPI and Jamie Wakefield (Windsor, CT/Windsor) won three. Sarah Skinner (Oswego, NY/Oswego) won three draws for Rochester and Niki Holmes (New Woodstock, NY/Cazenovia) won two.

Two goals from Maguire in the first five minutes pushed RPI ahead, 2-0. Rochester equalized on an unassisted goal from Hannon and a crackling 12 yard shot from left wing by Kennedy (with 18:07 left) after a 30-yard pass upfield by Kayleigh Hogan (Geneva, NY/Geneva). Page scored at 17:35 and 16:32 for a 4-2 lead. Sisson made it 5-2 with less than eight minutes left in the half. RPI scored six goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to open its lead to 11-3.

On Saturday, RPI plays at RIT and Rochester hosts Skidmore. RIT defeated Skidmore, 20-14, on Friday.
