Aztecs Fall in Overtime at Saint Francis

LORETTO, Pa. -- The San Diego State lacrosse team was edged, 16-15, in overtime at Saint Francis Friday afternoon in Loretto, Pa. The loss put the Aztecs at 3-8 in their inaugural season, while the Flash improved to 2-8.

SDSU took a 9-5 lead at the half and led by as many as five at 11-6 with 23:46 left in the second half on an Isabelle Pickett goal from Lauren Maack. SFU, however, rallied with eight of the next 10 goals and had a 14-13 lead in the waning moments of the second half.

Madeline Ross answered for San Diego State on a free-position shot with nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Saint Francis scored the first two goals in the extra period before Michaela Jarvis scored off an assist from Maack with 51 seconds remaining. But the Aztecs couldn't get the tying goal and had to take the 16-15 overtime loss.

Bailey Ewing led SDSU with four goals on seven shots, while Meris Walsh added a hat trick on seven attempts. Sophie Koubek and Ross had two goals apiece, and Maack had three of the team's four assists.

Christina Ricciardulli had team bests of five ground balls and four draw controls. Ewing and Pickett each added four ground balls and three draw controls, respectively.

Sammy Slattery played all 66 minutes and made seven saves.

San Diego State looks to snap its three-game losing streak April 7 at Regis University.
