Austin Brothers Lead Brockport Past Oswego

Sophomore Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored five goals and his brother Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity Pawling) added two goals and two assists to lead College at Brockport to a convincing 12-5 victory over Oswego Friday afternoon in a SUNYAC game in Oswego.

Riley Austin scored twice in the first quarter as Brockport (5-5 Overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) to give Brockport an early 4-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of action. Austin scored at the 11:27 mark of the quarter and then Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) made it a 2-0 lead two minutes later.

Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added his team-leading 30th goal of the season at the 3:07 for a 3-0 Brockport lead. Austin scored his second goal of the game less than a minute later for the 4-0 Golden Eagle advantage after one quarter of play.

Oswego (7-1, 0-1) answered with a pair of man-up goals to start the second quarter before Thomas added his second goal of the game at 9:02 to give Brockport back the momentum. Alex Austin scored both of his goals in the closing minutes of the first half with one at the 4:03 mark and the second with just seven seconds remaining in the first half and Brockport took a 7-2 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Lakers scored in the first minute of the second half but Riley Austin answered five minutes later for his third goal of the contest. After Oswego scored a little more than a minute later to cut the Brockport lead to 8-4, Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) notched the first of his two goals. Oswego cut into the lead again near the end of the third quarter but in the final 15 minutes of action, Palmer added his second goal and Riley Austin scored twice down the stretch to seal the victory.

Oswego was listed in the also receiving votes section of the latest United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll after its 7-0 start to the season.

Junior Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) made eight saves to post the victory for Brockport in goal.

Palmer, Elliott and Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each added assists for the Golden Eagles.
