Eidem Ties Career High as Titans Extinguish Flames

DETROIT -- It might have been raining Friday at game time, but the only storm in town today was the Titans offense as they poured in 11-straight goals to start the game cruising to a 19-5 victory over Liberty in a National Lacrosse Conference game on Saturday morning.

The win improved Detroit to 2-7 on the season and 1-1 in NLC action, while Liberty fell to 2-8, 0-1 in the conference.

Senior Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) led the way tying her career high with a game-high eight goals and nine points. Eidem is coming off back-to-back five goal games last week. She took 13 shots in this contest and all 13 were on goal. The offensive outburst also marked the fourth time this season she had five or more goals in a game.

"We were passing and moving the ball around well and I think the best thing working for us today was that we had five different people score and pick up assists for us," said Eidem. "Every attacker was a threat and that balanced attack is what you really want to have."

Senior Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) netted six goals and added an assist, while senior Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) posted three goals and an assist.

The game was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m., on Friday, but rain and lightning forced it to be postponed to this morning.

The Titan offense took a few minutes to get going, but down a man after a yellow card, Eidem started the scoring with a goal at the 26:16 mark Junior Lindsey Saunders (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) added a free position shot a little more than a minute later and the red, white and blue led 2-0.

Mahorn won the subsequent draw control and would then beat the goalie for her first of the day right after that and the Titans' lead grew to three just six minutes into the contest.

UDM was kept off the scoreboard for the next eight minutes and also held Liberty at bay. Once again, the Titans went on a hot streak that started with back-to-back goals from Boissonneault and Eidem at 17:37 and 17:13 to go up 5-0.

Eidem started another quick two-goal strike with a marker at 12:55 and after Boissonneault won the next draw control, Mahorn got the ball and fired one past the Liberty goalie for a 7-0 lead with 11:40 left.

The red, white and blue put the game away with four more goals before the first period came to an end, including Eidem with her fourth and fifth of the half as the Titans took an 11-1 lead at the break.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Titan offense kept the foot on the pedal with eight more goals. Detroit had its largest lead with six minutes left as they were up by 15, 18-3.

The Titans finished with 34 shots on the day compared to 16 for Liberty while draw controls were also in Detroit's favor, 16-10.

Junior Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA/Dublin) had a goal and an assist, while freshman Tessa Keuler (Oregon City, OR/Oregon City) handed out a pair of assists.

Freshman Lexie McCormick (Peterborough, ON/St. Peters) started in goal for Detroit and made six saves in the cage picking up the win.

Detroit will look to make it two in a row as the Titans host Longwood Sunday. First draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
