Ziccardi Has Big Day, and Shoremen Down Mules

ALLENTOWN, PA -- Junior attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) tallied a career-best seven points on a career-high tying five goals and two assists and surpassed 100 career points as visiting Washington College posted a 17-16 Centennial Conference win over host Muhlenberg this afternoon.

Muhlenberg (4-4, 0-4 Centennial) struck first, scoring just 1:11 into the game on a goal by Alexandra Gabriele off an assist from Angela Napoletano. Washington (6-3, 2-1) evened the score on a goal by senior attacker Kalli Parrish(Timonium, MD/McDonogh School) with 27:20 remaining in the first half and quickly took the lead 18 seconds later on a goal by freshman midfielder Emily Hubley (West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) off an assist from junior midfielderMollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic).

Muhlenberg responded with a goal by Molly Davin, assisted by Michelle Certosimo, with 25:52 to go in the half. The Shorewomen went back in front, 3-2, on a free-position goal by Ziccardi just 44 seconds later. Muhlenberg again tied the score with 19:30 remaining in the first as Stephanie Umbach scored off an assist from Kelsey Elmer.

Ziccardi put the Shorewomen back in front, 4-3, on a goal with 18:11 left in the half and Hubley gave them the first two-goal lead of the game on a score off an assist from Parrish with 15:40 on the clock. The lead grew to three goals when Parrish found senior midfielder Rachel Bartee (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll)for a goal with 13:01 left in the half, but Muhlenberg trimmed the margin to 6-4 on a goal by Umbach off a Certosimo assist with 10:48 remaining and got back to within one goal 20 seconds later on a free-position goal by Gabriele.

Muhlenberg knotted the score at 6-6 30 seconds after that as Alex Bellini netted the goal off a Certosimo assist. Ziccardi scored with 8:52 left to give Washington a 7-6 lead and then netted her 100th career point by scoring a goal off an assist from Shipley with 5:17 left to push the lead to 8-6. Ziccardi then assisted on a goal by sophomore midfielder Carly Eisenbrandt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) with 4:23 remaining before the intermission, increasing the advantage to 9-6.

Shipley scored Washington's 10th goal off an assist from senior attacker Liza Twilley (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury School) with 3:18 to play in the first. The Mules got three goals back before the break on a Certosimo tally with 2:38 left, a Davin goal 21 seconds later, and a Davin goal off assist by Sarah Hetrick with 25 seconds remaining to close back to within a goal at 10-9.

The Shorewomen opened the second-half scoring with a free-position goal by Parrish to up the lead to 11-9 1:05 into the second. Hubley extended the lead to 12-9 on a goal off a Parrish assist with 25:35 left. Bellini then scored off an Umbach assist with 21:56 to go to make it 12-10 and Umbach netted a goal off a Hetrick assist 27 seconds later to narrow the margin to 12-11.

The Shorewomen responded with a goal by junior midfielder Marissa Restaino (Media, PA/Penncrest) off a Ziccardi assist with 20:27 to play, but Davin countered for the Mules with 18:24 to go to make it 13-12. The Shorewomen again prevented Muhlenberg from evening the score as Hubley scored off an Eisenbrandt helper with 17:36 to play.

Davin scored again for the Mules just 10 seconds later to get Muhlenberg back to within a goal at 14-13. The scoring trend continued with a Parrish goal with 15:12 left extending the lead to 15-13, but a Bellini goal off a Certosimo assist with 14:05 to go again chopping the lead to one at 15-14.
