Bison Drop a Back-and-Forth Affair at Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bison locked up in an entertaining, see-saw afair against Patriot League rival Lafayette on Saturday, but Bucknell came up just short, as the Leopards scored the game's final three goals to post a 14-11 decision at Fisher Stadium. Sophie Kleinert scored three times for the Bison, who fell to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League.

Katelyn Miller produced two goals and an assist, while Lindsey Ferro and Ryan Wenk scored twice each. Madison Hurwitz and Arriana Sajjad added a goal and an assist apiece. Sajjad also had six draw controls, while Adrienne Wendling collected three draw controls and four ground balls.

Addie Godfrey led Lafayette (8-5, 1-2) with five goals and two assists. Ana White chipped in three goals and an assist while adding to her national lead with seven draw controls.

Bucknell held Lafayette to 16 shots on goal in the game, but the Leopards scored on 14 of them. All told, Lafayette outshot the Bison 25-24 in a game that was even statistically.

Goals by Kleinert and Miller staked the Bison to a quick 2-0 lead. After Jessica Rothstein scored the first of Lafayette's five free-position goals, Sajjad and Miller added two more to give the Bison a 4-1 lead.

Later in the half Kleinert scored off a Sajjad assist to give Bucknell a 5-3 advantage. But Victoria Maxon answered just 10 seconds later for Lafayette, igniting a 3-0 run that gave the Leopards their first lead of the day at 6-5.

Bucknell finished the half well and regained the lead. Hurwitz tied the game at 6-6, then fed Wenk for a goal with 5:39 left that gave Bucknell a 7-6 lead at the break.

The two teams alternated goals over an eight-minute span early in the second half. It was an 8-8 game when Ferro and Wenk scored just 14 seconds apart to give the Bison a two-goal cushion.

Lafayette jumped back on top with a three-goal run, with two of the scores coming with a man advantage after Bucknell yellow cards. Maxon's goal off a Rothstein assist with 13:53 to play put the Leopards up 11-10, but Ferro came back for the Bison and tied it from an 8-meter attempt with 12:30 to play.

However that would be Bucknell's last goal of the day. Just 50 seconds after the Ferro goal, White scored to put Lafayette ahead to stay. Erin Steel made it 13-11 with 5:22 to play, and then Godfrey scored her 45th goal of the season to ice it with 3:30 left.

Bucknell is back in action next Saturday at Holy Cross at 1:00 p.m.
