#11 Bowdoin Scores Late to Edge Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Elizabeth Clegg scored the game-winning goal with 5:11 left in regulation to give Bowdoin College an important 9-8 conference win over Williams on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-3 (4-2 NESCAC) with the victory while the Ephs drop to 3-5 (0-5 NESCAC).

Carolyn Gorajek led all players with four goals and an assist for Bowdoin, while Clegg scored twice. Katie Herter had a goal and an assist for the Polar Bears. Sam Weinstein led Williams with two scores.

Tied 4-4 at halftime, Williams grabbed a 6-4 lead with both of Weinstein's goals right after intermission. Bowdoin rebounded with a 3-0 run, capped by a Celeste Swain goal that gave the visitors a 7-6 edge with 15:59 to go. The teams traded goals before Lilly Wellenbach netted the game-tying tally with 7:36 remaining to deadlock the score at 8-8.

Clegg's game winner came off an assist from Gorajek with 5:11 to go, setting the stage for a frantic finish. But moments later the teams were forced to vacate the field for 21 minutes due to a lightning delay. When play resumed, Bowdoin possessed the ball for much of the remaining time to clinch the win.

Tara Connolly was credited with three saves in the win for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears held a 24-19 shot advantage and committed just nine turnovers to 15 for Williams. Katie Stewart had four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers while Emily French had a team-best four ground balls for Bowdoin.
