Tigers Don't Fool Around Against Oglethorpe

ATLANTA Colorado College extended its winning streak to four games and maintained its hold on first place atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 21-2 victory at Oglethorpe University on Sunday afternoon.

"The guys responded well coming off an important victory at Birmingham-Southern on Friday night," head coach Sean Woods said. "Almost everybody played and did a good job."

Senior attacker Hunter Sprole struck for all three of his goals in the first period as CC built a commanding 11-2 lead after 15 minutes.

Senior attacker Moses Taylor notched what proved to be his third game-winning tally of the season with just 4:01 expired. Twelve players scored for the Tigers, who built an 8-0 lead just 9:51 into the first quarter.

Freshman attacker Jake Godwin put the Stormy Petrels on the board after taking a pass from classmate Coleman Plaisted with 2:52 remaining in the period, and Plaisted scored 61 seconds later.

The Tigers added goals by Sprole and sophomore midfielder Jack Kreitler during the final minute of the first quarter and three more during the second period to take a 14-2 lead into halftime.

Colorado College was deliberate on offense during the second half, adding only five goals in the third quarter and two more in the fourth.

"We did a good job with our offensive possessions in the second half when we had a sizeable lead," Woods said. "It was a good overall effort and a very nice weekend."

Sophomore attacker Jake Smith led Colorado College with three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Charles Curtis and sophomore attacker Tyler Allen each added a trio of markers.

Freshman midfielder Kevin Wylie won six of 12 faceoffs and grabbed a game-high seven ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Zach Steedman made two saves for the CC, which finished with a 57-8 advantage in total shots and 47-24 edge in ground balls.

Junior goaltender John Brewer stopped 16 saves during a little more than three quarters of action for OU.

The Tigers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the SCAC. Oglethorpe slipped to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Colorado College plays host to Southwestern University on Friday night under the lights at Washburn Field. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
