Marywood Captures CSAC Victory at Immaculata

Immaculata, PA - Marywood improved to 3-1 in the CSAC with a 14-8 victory at Immaculata on Wednesday afternoon. The Pacers, who got a game-high six points from Greg Nester, four goals from Sam Trill, and four assists from Joe LaBella, lift their overall record to 6-4 with the win, while the Mighty Macs fall to 1-10 this spring and 1-2 in the CSAC.

Ben Tuscai and Joey Shallow gave Immaculata a 2-0 lead after the first 5:19 of Wednesday afternoon's game before Chris Riley put Marywood on the board off a Dylan Swope assist. Derek Schmidt leveled the contest with an unassisted goal with 3:51 to play in the opening period and the Pacers took a 3-2 lead when Sam Trill found the back of the net after taking a pass from Riley.

Shallow's second goal of the game at the 9:44 mark of the second quarter knotted the game at 3-apeice, but Marywood would go on to score the final five goals of the period to hold an 8-3 lead at halftime. Greg Nester scored three straight goals, two unassisted and one off a Joe LaBella helper, to stretch the Pacers' lead to 6-3 with 2:38 showing on the clock. Nester would then set up goals by Swope and Trill to give Marywood the five-goal advantage at the break.

Immaculata narrowed their deficit to three goals by scoring the first two markers of the third quarter, but Marywood extended their advantage to 11-5 with the game's next three goals. Trill netted his second goal of the afternoon off Nester's third assist of the game and Ryan Nowell followed with a tally of his own, assisted by Nick Johnson, with 2:01 left in the frame. Trill completed his hat-trick after taking a feed from LaBella with 52 seconds left in the period to stretch Marywood's lead to six goals heading into the fourth quarter.

Jordan Smith got a goal back for the Mighty Macs with 8:52 remaining in regulation to trim the Pacers' lead to 11-6, but Riley Dobel restored Marywood's six-goal cushion by making good on LaBella's third assist of the game at the 4:59 mark. Mike Boyd responded just 31 seconds later for the Mighty Macs before Shallow completed his hat-trick with 3:05 left on the clock. Jon Roerden made the score 13-8 in favor of Marywood by scoring with 1:52 to play with LaBella again assisting on the goal and Marcus Janda closed out the scoring 18 seconds later with an unassisted marker.

Nester's six points came on three goals and three assists while Trill (4 goals) and LaBella (4 assists) recorded four points apiece in the win. Nester also led Marywood with five groundballs while Johnson was credited with four groundballs on the afternoon. Mike Falco won 7 of 11 faceoff attempts for the game as both teams won 12 draws in the contest.

Nicholas Cornella picked up the win in goal for Marywood after turning aside 16 Immaculata shots in just over 55 minutes of action. Steve Kilian and Brian White made two stops apiece while splitting the final 4:57 in the Pacers' cage.

Immaculata, who held a 37-31 edge in shots from the game and a 31-27 edge in groundballs for the game, got seven saves from goalie Max Bonhage in the loss. Shallow finished with four points on three goals and one assist to lead the Mighty Macs while Tuscai and Boyd netted two goals apiece.

Marywood will take on Susquehanna University in non-conference play next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, PA.
