No. 15 Generals Fly Past Eagles for ODAC Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Washington and Lee raced out to a 15-4 halftime lead en route to a 21-9 win over Bridgewater in women's lacrosse on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore attack Katie Hagen (West Chester, Pa./Notre Dame) opened the scoring for the Generals (10-3, 6-0 ODAC) with a free position goal at the 27:59 and was followed closely by a goal from sophomore midfielder Alex Van Horn (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) 23 seconds later for an early 2-0 lead.

W&L made it three goals in under a minute, as senior attack Alli Shearin (Essex Fells, N.J./Weset Essex) took a feed from Hagen and it to make it a 3-0 game at the 27:10 mark. Shearin then set up sophomore attack Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass./Brooks) for a goal at the 26:45 mark.

BC (3-7, 1-4) found rope at 25:17, an unassisted goal by Katie Freeman before the Generals tallied another trio of goals for a 7-1 lead by the 22:20 mark. Shearin started the burst with an unassisted goal, Klein then fed Hagen for a marker and Klein capped the run with a free position goal.

Two straight Eagles goals pulled BC to within four at 7-3 with 20:23 left in the opening period. However, Klein netted an unassisted goal at the 18:36 mark and the Blue and White proceeded to score eight times over the next 15 minutes in assuming a 15-3 lead at the 3:18 mark on Klein's fifth goal of the first half.

Taylor Chamberlain scored her second goal of the opening half with 52 seconds on the clock as W&L took a commanding lead (15-4) into the break.

Scoring slowed dramatically in the second half with the two teams virtually trading goals back and forth as W&L maintained at least a 10-goal lead the remainder of the contest.

Klein finished with seven points on five goals and two assists to lead the scoring charge for W&L. Shearin added three goals and two assists, Hagen had three markers and a helper. Sophomore attack Greta Witter (Douglasville, Pa./The Hill School)chipped in two goals, three groundballs and four draw controls. Senior Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Holy Cross) grabbed six draw controls.

First-year Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) played all 60:00 in net for W&L, recording five saves and allowing nine goals. Laura Reynolds played the duration in goal for Bridgewater, surrendering 21 goals while stopping 12 shots.

Chamberlain led the Eagles with five goals. Jenny Logan added two goals, an assist and two draw controls.

The Generals return to action on April 14, when they host Lynchburg at 1:00 pm.
