No. 10 Saint Anselm Wins 7th Straight, Edging Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Saint Anselm extended its program record winning streak to seven games with an 8-6 victory over the Falcons of Bentley Wednesday evening at Grappone Stadium. With the victory, the No. 10-ranked Hawks boast a 7-1 overall record and an unblemished Northeast-10 Conference record (5-0). The Falcons fall to 1-4 on the season and to 1-2 within conference play.

Saint Anselm and Bentley played to a 1-1 tie through the first quarter as attack Tyler Steinetz (Sparta, N.J.) scored an unassisted goal with 12:41 remaining in the first period to place the Hawks on the board first. For Bentley, a strike by senior midfielder Justin Holmes tied the score at one apiece exiting first quarter play.

In the second stanza, the Falcons doubled up the Hawks in the scoring department, sandwiching attack Geoff Kennedy's (Gloucester, Mass.) 14th goal of the season with 2:34 remaining in the period. Both Steve Caditz and Dan Keefer tallied even-strength goals for Bentley to open and close the quarter, respectively, to grant the Falcons a 3-2 halftime advantage.

Saint Anselm potted the first two goals of the second half as sophomore midfielder Ryan Mee (Medway, Mass.) and freshman midfielder James Peters (Medway, Mass.) scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals, respectively, to temporarily lift the Hawks ahead by a 4-3 score. To conclude the period, both J.D. Ayer and Caditz scored unassisted goals to take the 5-4 lead.

Four straight goals by the Hawks to open the fourth quarter silenced any legitimate comeback attempt by the Bentley offense. Midfielder Michael DeVita (Annandale, N.J.) scored his fourth goal of the season with 7:43 remaining in the fourth quarter to knot the score at five apiece. With less than one minute following DeVita's strike, junior midfielder Daniel Sullivan (Rumford, R.I.) recorded his fifth goal in five games, converting their second Saint Anselm man-up goal on the evening.

To conclude the game, both the Hawks and Falcons traded goals within the final 25 seconds of the game. Junior Kyle Murphy (Middletown, R.I.) scored off of a feed from Kennedy with 23 seconds remaining while Ayer potted his second of the evening for Bentley with only six ticks left on the clock.

Saint Anselm goaltender Jonathon O'Reilly (Plano, Texas) made 11 saves en route to his seventh straight victory between the pipes for the Hawks, allowing only six goals on the evening. For Bentley, Brian Karl drew his third loss of the season and halted 8 of 16 shots on net in the game.
