No. 23 Simon Fraser Runs by Idaho to Win Four of Last Five

BURNABY, BC (April 3, 2012) Simon Fraser continued their drive back from a 1-5 start with a 24-6 win over Idaho to post their fourth victory in their last five starts and improve their overall record to 5-6 on the year, while moving to 1-0 at the top of the PNCLL North Division.

Ten different Clan players got on the score sheet, led by the attack quartet of Calvin Craig (Coquitlam, BC/Gleneagle Secondary) 5g, 2a, Colton Dow (Coquitlam, BC/Heritage Woods Secondary) 4g, 2a, Ward Spencer (Saskatoon, SK/Evan Hardy Collegiate) 4g, 2a and Iain Vickars (Burnaby, BC/Burnaby South Secondary) 2g, 2a, who registered a combined 23 points on the night.

Craig and Dow connected to open the scoring but a casual start by the Clan would see Idaho quickly tie the score at 1-1 on a goal by freshman midfielder Patrick Tunison (Boise, ID/Bishop Kelly HS). A Fraser timeout following the Vandal goal would seemingly refocus the home squad and send the Clan onto the attack, scoring the game's next 17 goals for quarter leads of 5-1, 11-1 and 17-1 heading into the final frame.

Idaho continued to fight throughout the game but had toruble with the Clan's transition game. A much more competitive fourth quarter would see the Vandals score five goals on the strength of three markers by junior attackman Kyle Morse (Moscow, ID/Logos School) to SFU's 7 as Fraser's bench saw considerable minutes in the second half on route to a 24-6 final.

The convincing win would see Simon Fraser climb one spot to No. 23 in the latest poll released on April 3. The Clan will look to continue to improve on their ranking when they face-off against No. 17 Texas in a neutral site contest at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon this Sunday, April 8. Idaho will have a week off before playing Washington State on April 14.
