Privateers Can't Keep Pace with Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 8, 2012) Maritime played up a division on Friday afternoon and lost on the road to the University of Bridgeport, 18-3, at Purple Knights' Field. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 1-6 overall, while Bridgeport improves to 3-1.

Three different players scored for Maritime seniors Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and sophomore Megan White (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury). Senior goalie Laura Palino (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) made 13 saves.

Brady led the Privateers with three draw controls, while Saporito and junior Victoria DeLouise (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) each had a team-high three caused turnovers apiece. DeLouise led all players with four groundballs.

For Bridgeport, junior Gabrielle Valela scored a game-high eight points with seven goals and one assist. Four other players recorded multi-goal games, while sophomore goalie Victoria Harrison made eight saves for the victory.

Maritime returns to action on Thursday, April 12, when the squad will welcome in Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Vincent. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
