The victory is Hartwick's fifth of the season and its first in the Empire 8. Alfred falls to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the E8 with the loss.

The Hawk defense, anchored by Luce, would tighten up the rest of the way as it allowed only four more goals over the final 47:36 of the game.

Offensively, the Hawks quickly responded after falling behind with three goals in 24 seconds to retake the lead 4-3 with 16:33 left. Littleton scored from Lavaute to begin the rally. After just 14 ticks, senior Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland HS) tallied to tie the score, and 10 seconds later LaVaute set up senior Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon) for the lead.

Alfred's Ali Garcia evened the score at four with the first of her two goals on the day with 15:35 left to play in the half. Less than a minute later, however, LaVaute scored unassisted to give Hartwick the advantage for good.

Littleton found LaVaute for her second of the day with under seven minutes left. Freshman Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro HS) closed out the first half with a goal with 3:22 left and the Hawks led 7-4 at halftime.

LaVaute's third tally pushed the Hawks' lead to four three minutes, 57 seconds into the second half. Kaitlyn Button answered for the Saxons with the second of her team-best three goals on the day but McGovern beat AU keeper Taylor Tarajos 22 seconds later for 'Wick. She would add her second score of the afternoon with 19:03 remaining in the game for a 10-5 lead for the hosts.

Garcia would score for AU to cut the deficit to four with her second goal of the game with 18:08 to play. The Saxons have several chances to continue to dig into the Hartwick lead but Luce would continually deny them. She finished the half with eight stops, including four in a 6:04 span after Alfred's sixth goal.

Littleton furthered the Hartwick cause with 4:20 to play as she netted her second of the game. She wasted little time beating Tarajos for her third just 59 seconds later to give 'Wick its biggest edge of the game, 12-6. Button closed out the scoring for AU with 2:24 showing on the clock.
