DiSalvo Nets 200th Pt. as Maine Maritime Routs Johnson State

CASTINE, Maine -- Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) scored five goals and assisted on another as Maine Maritime rolled to a 16-4 win over Johnson State in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Friday evening. The Mariners (2-5, 2-1 NAC) Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied his 200th career point during the victory over the Badgers (1-5, 0-3 NAC).

Maine Maritime broke open a 2-1 game with seven unanswered goals in the second quarter. Corain accounted for three of the goals in the run. His were all unassisted tallies. Corain assisted Maine Maritimeís only goal in the third quarter, the first of three for Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine), before dumping in two more early in the fourth. Guimond also had an assist for a four-point evening.

While Corain delivered the knockout blow, it was freshman middie, Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) that set the tone for the night. He took a DiSalvo feed from behind the net to beat Zach Jerome (Waterford, Conn.) up high for the gameís first goal.

Betti finished the night with a hat trick. DiSalvoís helper was the first of four points on a two-goal, two-assist night. His second assist, on Corainís final goal made him the second player in Maine Maritimeís history to reach 200 points in his career, joining Christopher Keiley. DiSalvo needs three assists to become the first Mariner to reach 100 in his career.

After Betti opened the scoring, he ripped a shot inside of the left post 1:48 later to make it a 2-0 game. Johnsonís Justin Connolly (Jeffersonville, Vt.) answered on the ensuing faceoff. Neither team found the net for the rest of the quarter. Jerome denied five Marinersí chances in the first quarter en route to 16 saves on the night. Maine Maritimeís Gavin Cote (Arundel, Maine) stopped seven shots, while allowing two goals. Oscar Adams (Alexandria, Va.) turned away one shot working the second half of the final quarter.

Johnson State got two goals from senior attack, Alex Petti (E. Greenwich, R.I.), while class and linemate, Justin Nelson (Lakeview, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist. Mike Trombly (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Jerome each grabbed five ground balls.

MMAís Alex Hermes (Fallsington, Pa.) won 9 of 9 faceoffs and scooped 10 ground balls in the win. Maine Maritime owned a 16-8 advantage on the midfield X. Jason Smith (Portland, Maine) forced three turnovers and gathered six ground balls.

Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Lyndon St. Johnson St. will face Husson on Saturday.
