Pacific Falls in Battle at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - Amy Mayhugh (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) scored three goals for the second straight game, but Pacific's offense had little answers for a tight Carthage defense as the Lady Reds downed the Boxers 15-7 in women's lacrosse action at Art Keller Field.

Carthage (6-3) limited Pacific to just 14 shots on the evening and limited the Boxers (6-5) to just three first half goals. Two of Mayhugh's goals came in the first half while she also added the Boxers' final score with 6:37 remaining in the second half.

Kelly Stevens (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) added two goals and an assist while Kacey Killingbeck (So., Nampa, Idaho) and Jenna Nickle (Fr., Port Moody, B.C.) scored one goal each. Natalie Ceis and Desirae Murphy each scored three goals to lead the Lady Reds.

Carthage out-shot Pacific 33-14 while also owning a 35-19 edge in ground balls and a 13-11 advantage in draw controls.

The two teams traded goals in the first two minutes before the Lady Reds took control with a string of five unanswered goals. Olivia Nino started the run with her unassisted strike at the 24:44 mark. By the time Lauren Chatham tallied with 7:22 left, Carthage owned a 6-1 lead. Stevens ended run with her goal with six minutes left and Mayhugh tallied on a free-position shot with 14 seconds left. Ceis responded with a goal with two seconds left to give Carthage a 9-3 halftime lead.

Carthage outscored Pacific 3-1 over the first 14 minutes of the second half before the Boxers tallied their first back-to-back goals of the game. Stevens scored with 15:44 to go and Nickle tallied for the Boxers with 13:07 left. The rest of the half ended the same way it started with Carthage scoring three of the final four goals.

Brittany Hartmann (Jr., Portland, Ore.) took the loss in goal for the Boxers in just her second start in goal this season, making 12 saves. Ali Gorman made seven saves to lead the Lady Reds.
