No. 7 Stevens Knocked off by St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 1, 2012) Junior midfielder Harrison Dorne (Morristown, N.J.) tallied eight points on five goals and three assists but it was not enough to lead No. 7 Stevens to victory over St. John Fisher on April 7. Stevens fell to the Cardinals, 15-12, suffering its second loss of the season (9-2) and first Empire 8 Conference defeat this year.

Dorne scored four of his five goals in the second quarter, including a string of three straight over a 3:30 span in the period. Two of those were man-up scores, both assisted by junior midfielder Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J.), who finished the game with seven points (four goals, three assists).

The Ducks never led in the game until the final goal of the second half with just three seconds to go. Dorne scored his fourth goal of the quarter to send Stevens into the break with an 8-7 advantage off a pass from senior attack Alex Hofrichter (Terrance Park, Ohio). Hofrichter caused two turnovers and scooped up two groundballs in the set back.

Stevens controlled the scoreboard for a majority of the second half up until Fisher knotted the game up at 12 with 10 minutes left in the game. From there, the Cardinals closed out the contest on a 5-0 run to claim the victory.

The Ducks opened the final 30 minutes with a goal from Dupras just two minutes into the third quarter, matching Stevens' largest lead of the game. Dorne assisted on the score by Dupras before Fisher answered back with two quick scores to deadlock the game at 9.

Dupras and senior attack Kevin Rose (Garden City, N.Y.) responded for Stevens with back-to-back goals to end the scoring in the third period and mount the Ducks to a two-goal lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play, 11-9. Rose also picked up an assist.

Fisher cut its deficit to one in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter before Stevens answered back a minute later off Dorne's fifth and final goal on a pass from senior midfielder Nicolas Philippi (Mullica Hill, N.J.). The Ducks led, 12-10, after the Dorne tally but would not register another goal and watched Fisher close out the game with five consecutive goals.

Philippi also recorded a goal in the loss, as did sophomore attack Charlie Cronin (Northampton, Mass.). Cronin assisted on a first half goal as well.

At the face-off "X", senior midfielder Michael Steinhauser (Boonton Twp., N.J.) won 14 of 28 face-offs, picked up a team-best six groundballs and forced two turnovers.

Senior Eric Yando (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) suffered the loss in cage for Stevens, making eight saves in all 60 minutes of action.

Stevens was on the wrong end of every team statistical category except shots, as it attempted 48 to Fisher's 31.

The Ducks will be back in action next Saturday, April 14, for an Empire 8 showdown with Utica College at 1:00 p.m. in Utica, N.Y.
