Castleton Cruises to Victory at Maine-Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine - Castleton led just 3-2 after one period, but scored 17 unanswered goals on their way to a 20-2 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Prescott Field.

The Spartans had a eight different players earn a point as they improved to 5-6 overall and 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Beavers dropped to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) was the team's most prolific scorer, with five goals and one assist. Freshman phenom Zach Davidson (South Burlington, Vt.) scored three times and had five assists for a career-high tying eight points while sophomore Colin Murray (Oshawa, Ont.) added his second straight hat trick.

The Spartans struggled in the first period and held a slim 3-2 advantage after the first 15 minutes. Murray scored 3:23 into the second quarter to pad the lead and Green added another just 38 seconds later for the 4-0 lead. Castleton would score five more goals to take a 10-2 halftime lead.

In the second half, it was all Spartans, including a goal by Kenneth Bourneuf (Waterbury, Vt.) off an assist from Evan Tucker (Rising Sun, Md.) just 12 seconds into the third. Castleton scored five more times in the quarter and four times in the fourth for the 20-2 final.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to face conference newcomer New England College at 4:00 p.m.
