Cardinals Dominate Second Half to Clip Royals

PITTSFORD, NY-St. John Fisher dominated the second half to pull away from a 7-3 halftime lead to defeat Scranton, 14-5, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Growney Stadium.

Senior attacker Mitch Ritchie (Brockport, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) led the Cardinals with five goals and an assist, senior midfielder Kyle Denhoff (Penfield, NY/Penfield) finished with four goals, and senior attacker Connor Henderson (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) added two goals and an assist. The win was the seventh straight for Fisher, now 8-2.

Senior attacker Kyle Frank (Glen Arm, Md./Boys' Latin) paced Scranton, now 7-3, with two goals and an assist, junior midfielder Dillon McInerney (Hawthorne, NJ/Bergen Catholic) chipped in two goals, and junior attacker Taylor Nelson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) had a goal to extend his scoring streak with at least one goal to 10 straight games.

Frank opened the third period with an unassisted goal to cut the Cardinals' lead to three before Fisher scored five straight goals, including three by Ritchie, to take a comfortable 12-5 lead into the final 15 minutes of play. Scranton scored only one more time after Frank's goal to open the third period.

St. John Fisher held a 36-23 advantage in shots and a 33-21 margin in ground balls. The Cardinals also won 13 of 23 face-offs, which kept them on the offensive end of the field for much of the afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Worthington (Jenkintown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) finished with 11 saves for the Royals, who will return to action this Saturday, April 14, against Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
