Offensive Bursts Carry Iona by Marist in MAAC Match

During this opening 20:32, the Red Foxes caused six turnovers and had four shots stopped by Casiano. It wasn't until 9:28, that Iona finally notched the ninth goal of the game to give it a 7-2 lead.

Marist's lone goal in the second half was scored by Miller at 4:32. The junior continued her break-out season with goal number 23 on a fast cut from behind the right side of the net and a low shot to the left corner.

Two late Iona goals closed the scoring at 11-3 in the host's favor.

For the game, the Gaels outshot the Red Foxes 32-21 with a 24-15 advantage in shots on goal. Iona was able to outdraw Marist at 10-5 and convert 60 percent (3-5) of their free position shots, versus an 0-7 outing by the Red Foxes. Both teams registered 10 caused turnovers.

Individually, Casiano finished with 13 saves in a losing effort. Besides leading the team in scoring, Miller also led the team with four ground balls. Coming off of the bench, senior Kelsey Heckler (Bel Air, Md.) led the defense with a career-high three caused turnovers.

The Red Foxes will next be in action on Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. when they face off with Canisius. Prior to the game, Marist will honor its seven graduating seniors in a Senior Day presentation.
