Mercyhurst Picks up PSAC Victory at IUP

INDIANA, Pa.- Mercyhurst won, 14-11, at Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon. The Laker scored nine straight goals in the second half to pick up the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory.

IUP led 8-5 at halftime and 10-5 with 28:10 remaining in the match. From there, Hurst dominated. Kelly Palmer started the decisive run, scoring with 21:23 left and following with another goal 1:31 later. Less than a minute after that, Anna LeGrett got the Lakers within two.

Alisha Catalino converted a free position shot and then Hannah Corton evened the score with 16:59 to go. Catalino found the back of the net on another free position try with 15:03 to put the visitors ahead for the first time. Palmer, LeGrett, and Ally Keirn added insurance to give the Lakers a four-goal advantage.

IUP went up 2-0 early, but LeGrett came back with two goals 14 seconds apart to tie the match with 22:09 left in the first half. Michelle Zakrzewski scored consecutive goals to regain the Hawks' edge, but Keirn dented the scoreboard with 11:16 remaining to make it 4-3 Indiana.

After three straight IUP goals, LeGrett scored again to get Hurst within three. The hosts stretched the lead back to four before Catalino closed the first half with a goal, assisted by Kayla Minner.

LeGrett finished with a career-high five goals and an assist. Palmer and Catalino each had hat tricks, while Keirn scored twice. Jenny Perkins made eight saves in net for the win.

The Lakers improved to 8-4 this season and 6-1 in the PSAC. They host Lock Haven on Saturday, April 14. The PSAC match is set for a 5:30 p.m. start at Tullio Field.
