Coker's Season Comes to an End with Loss to Queens

HARTSVILLE, S.C. Coker College closed out their inaugural season on Wednesday night with a 16-3 loss to Conference Carolinas foe Queens University of Charlotte.

John Bretton, Timothy Smith and Keith LaClair scored a goal each for the Cobras, while Josh Masciarelli made eight saves in the net.

LaClair finishes the season as the Cobras top goal scorer, netting 31 goals. Steven Marciano scored 20 goals and Bretton and Smith each scored 13. Ryan Vento was the team leader in assists with 17.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. Queens handed a 16-3 loss to Coker this evening improving their league record to 2-2 (7-5). The Cobras dropped to 1-4 in Conference Carolinas action after the loss, and are now 2-14 in their first season of existence.

Corey Geroy and Casey Hock each recorded hat tricks in the win with Geroy also tallying an assist. Gianmarino Gianfrate and Cory Kloepfer each notched two goals, while Matthew Michael led his squad with four assists. Jeremy Bugbee and Dillon Draper led with five ground balls apiece, while Kenneth Stryker won 13 of 16 face offs. Nick Simonetti was awarded the win in goal after playing 45 minutes and collecting six saves.

Coker's three goals were scored by John Bretton, Timothy Smith and Keith LaClair. Josh Masciarelli took the loss in the net after getting eight stops.

The Royals got off to a slow start in the first putting two points on the board before going full throttle and notching six in the second quarter. Coker was only able to find the back of the net once in the first half for an 8-1 score at the break.

In the third, Queens scored five unanswered goals en route to running away with the game. Geroy netted two of his three in the 15 minutes.

With the Royals holding a 13-1 lead at the start of the fourth, Coker ended their scoring drought with a goal at 8:40.The Royals responded firing three more into the net extending their lead to 14 at 2:19. The Cobras would score the final point of the game at 2:10 giving the game its final score of 16-3.

The Royals outshot Coker 36-19 and won 17 of 22 face offs.

Queens is back in action on Saturday at home against Belmont Abbey at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
