McDaniel Uses 7-1 Run to Defeat Dickinson

(Westminster, Md.) Dickinson College suffered a 16-11 setback to McDaniel on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 16 minutes, behind a pair of goals from Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) and a free position by senior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills).

The Green Terror answered with four straight, taking a 4-3 advantage with 10:31 remaining in the half. Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) tied the game with just under seven minutes to play in the half.

The Devils countered a McDaniel tally with goals from Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) and Haglund to hold a 6-5 edge at halftime.

McDaniel opened the second half with a three-goal run to pull in front, 8-6. Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) finished an assist from Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) and Glazer netted a free position to pull the Devils even with 23 minutes to play in the game.

Moore traded goals with Kaitlin Mahoney before a three-goal run gave the hosts a 12-9 lead with 16:12 on the clock. Haglund assisted junior Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) before the Green Terror tallied four straight, to pull in front, 16-10.

Haglund closed out the scoring with 9:51 remaining for the final of 16-11. She finished with four goals and an assist to lead the attack.

Junior Amanda Moore (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made five saves on goal for the Red Devils.

Danielle Entrot led McDaniel with five goals and an assist. Paige Messersmith added three goals, two assists and 10 draw controls. Kate Goldstein made four saves for the Terror (6-7, 3-4 CC).

The Red Devils slip to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a 3:00 pm start.
