Millersville Rolls to 19-7 Win over IUP

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) netted four first-half goals to lead Millersville to a 19-7 victory over visiting Indiana (Pa.) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Twelve different players scored a goal, and 13 registered a point, for the Marauders (3-4, 2-2 PSAC), who posted their largest offensive day since a 19-5 victory over Shippensburg on Mar. 30, 2005.

Kylie Miller led the Indians (3-2, 1-2 PSAC) with five points on two goals and three assists while Jackie Rutkowski recorded three goals.

Marmer finished an Ashley Mazzie (Barto, PA/Boyertown) feed 4 minutes, 32 seconds into the game before Rutkowski responded just over a minute later, finishing the first of Miller's three helpers.

Millersville controlled play for the next 35 minutes, netting 15 of the next 16 goals to take a 16-2 lead with 19:57 to play in the game.

Marmer started a six-goal flurry over a 13-minute, 8-second span, finishing a solo run at the 22:52 mark of the first half.

Amy Longenecker (West Chester, PA/Henderson) converted a free-position shot before Joann Caminiti (North Wales, PA/North Penn) took the draw control and went to goal for the first of her three-goal day – her second hat trick in as many days.

Longenecker drilled home a Marmer pass, and Marmer finished a second solo run to stretch the lead to 6-1 with 10:55 to play in the opening half.

Jackie Geiger (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) got into the scoring 1 minute, 11 seconds later.

Miller won the ensuing draw control. Racing down the left side, she found a cutting Miller in front of the cage to momentarily halt the Marauder flurry.

Marmer again sparked a Millersville barrage, finishing an unassisted marker 33 seconds later to push the lead back to six.

Caminiti found the back of the net with 8:13 remaining in the half, giving the Marauders a 9-2 advantage.

With 3:04 until halftime, Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) finished a Geiger feed before Kristen Maze (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Ashley Brenner (Lititz, PA/Warwick) rounded out the first half scoring, giving Millersville a 12-2 advantage at the break.

Just over three minutes into the second half, Richmond posted her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Emily Colburn (Hanover, PA/South Western), Nicki Conzentino (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Kelly Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) all netted unassisted tallies to push the lead 16-2 with 19:57 to play.

IUP and Millersville exchanged goals over the next nearly 10 minutes before Kelly Kummerer went back-to-back for the Indians, closing the gap to 18-7 with 3:26 to play.

Caminiti completed her three-goal day with 30 seconds to play, giving Laura Chiodo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) an assist to go with her earlier goal.

For the game, the Marauders outshot IUP 52-21 and held a 44-19 advantage in ground balls.

Maze picked up a team-high eight ground balls and four caused turnovers to go with her goal.

Mia Gambino (Kalamazoo, MI/Pottsgrove [PA]) added seven grounds balls and three caused turnovers to the defense while Patty Wesolek (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) made eight saves between the pipes.

Millersville return to action at home against Philadelphia on Tuesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
