Wheatley Nets Five in No. 1 Salisbury's Rout of Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. Senior Allie Wheatley scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 1 Salisbury to a 17-3 win against Capital Athletic Conference foe Marymount (Va.) University Wednesday afternoon. With today's goals, Wheatley moves up two spots on the Sea Gulls' all-time goal scoring list, with 128, tied at No. 7 with Jess Chmielewski (2006-2010).

The five goal output also matches a single-game career-high for Wheatley. Also matching a career-high today was junior Katie Bollhorst, with five assists in the contest. With those five helpers, Bollhorst moves into a tie for sixth place on Salisbury's all-time assist leaderboard.

Senior Carrie Bray added two goals for the Sea Gulls, as did sophomore Shannon Carta, freshman Bethany Baer and classmate Hayden Hutzell.

Freshman Kate Haker netted a goal in the contest and dished out two assists for Salisbury.

Salisbury (13-0, 6-0 CAC) controlled the game on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet against Marymount (4-8, 3-4 CAC). The Sea Gulls outshot Marymount 29-9 in the contest, collected 13 more ground balls and committed nine fewer turnovers. The Saints were 5 of 18 on clearing attempts, while Salisbury was able to clear the zone 10 out of 11 times.

Sophomore goalie Ashton Wheatley made two saves, and classmate Hannah Whiteley stopped four Saints shots, to make the offensive effort stand up.

Salisbury is next in action Friday, traveling to Ewing, N.J. to take on No. 6 The College of New Jersey. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
