Marist to Dedicate Game in Memory of Edward Coombs
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist will dedicate Saturday's home game against Manhattan in memory of Edward Coombs. Coombs was a sophomore member of the Marist men's lacrosse team who tragically passed away in August.
The Red Foxes look to draw a large crowd to Tenney Stadium in support of the special game. The Marist Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host its Code Red/Code Ed event for this game. Code Red is an on-campus initiative in which Marist student-athletes across all sports look to join with the general student population in support of a specific athletic event.
Due to the significance of this game, the SAAC will celebrate this event as Code Ed, in special memory of Edward Coombs. The SAAC will sponsor a special halftime promotion where student fans will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes.
The Marist Student Booster Club will also offer free popcorn and cotton candy to fans at the game. This group will also hold a free student raffle for all in attendance where four lucky student fans will win $50 prize packs to the Poughkeepsie Galleria and Applebee's Restaurant.
During the season the Red Foxes are wearing a patch which is embroidered with Coombs initials EC. In a special tribute to Coombs, a different Marist player will wear Coombs' number 34 jersey during each game. The jersey must be earned, and is awarded to the player that is most deserving each week.
