Westfield State Rolls Past Salem State

WESTFIELD, Mass. Westfield State remained undefeated in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance with a resounding 19-7 victory over Salem State on Thursday evening, April 14.

The Owls are 4-0 in league play and 5-5 overall heading into their key league game this Saturday at Fitchburg State. Salem moves to 6-3 overall and 3-2.

The Owls again received strong offensive efforts from senior Carly Keeley (Feeding Hills), junior Maura Stack (Wilbraham), senior Nicole DiPilato (Shrewsbury) and freshman Amanda Bouchard (Lexington).

Keeley had game highs of five goals, seven points, and six draw controls. Stack tied for game-high honors with seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) and Bouchard finished with five points (4 goals, 1 assist). DiPilato tallied four goals.

Salem took a short-lived lead at the outset on Bridget Dullea's first of a team-high three goals 28 seconds into the game. The Owls then reeled off seven unanswered goals, including two apiece from Bouchard and DiPilato, for a 7-1 lead with 12:54 remaining in the first half.

After another Dullea goal, Westfield scored the final four goals of the first half for an 11-2 lead.

Salem scored the opening three goals of the second half to make it 11-5, forcing Westfield to call a timeout with 19:40 remaining.

Westfield seized control again with a 5-0 run for a 16-5 lead with 13:38 remaining. Keeley and DiPilato both tallied twice during the scoring spree.

The Owls outshot the Vikings, 42-15 and led in draw controls, 18-12. Salem goalie Molly Biewett recorded 11 saves. Dullea had five draw controls in addition to her three goals and Kate Warren contributed two goals and one assist.
