Eight Score as No. 19 Mustangs Galop Past Frostburg

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson's trio of sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill), sophomore Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and senior Laura Grammer (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) combined for 13 goals to lead the No. 19 Mustangs to a 20-4 win over Frostburg State Wednesday at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (7-5, 4-2 CAC) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first five minutes and went on to score the game's first nine goals before the Bobcats got on the board with 2:39 remaining in the first half.

Warner tied a career-high with seven points on four goals and three assists. She also totaled seven points in an 18-5 win versus Roanoke at home on March 9.

Meiklejohn led all scorers with five goals, tying a career-high, while Grammer finished with a career high four goals.

Senior Bri Manko (Towson, Md./Franklin) also tied a career-high with two points on two goals. Sophomore Mandy Marston (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) tallied three points on two goals and one assist.

Led by senior Sarah Pincus (New Market, Md./Linganore) who had three caused turnovers, the Stevenson defense held the Bobcats (4-10, 2-5 CAC) to just nine shots, eight ground balls, and eight draw controls. The Mustangs also caused 18 turnovers.

Senior Stephanie Hilton (Barnesville, Md./Poolesville) and freshman Amanda LeGar (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) combined for seven of the team's 18 draw controls.

Making her third career start in goal, freshman Julija Eshmont (Baltimore, Md./Lutheran) picked up her second win, making one save, before moving to the field in the second half where she scored a goal on a free position shot.

Kaitlyn Dudley led Frostburg State with two goals while Naomi Swann was credited with 10 saves.

Stevenson returns to action on Sunday when it hosts rival and No. 1-ranked Salisbury at Mustang Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Maryland Public Television 2.
