Golden Flyers Dominate Visiting Hartwick

Sophomore Mark Pinski finished 11-18 on faceoffs and Simoneau was 3-5 to provide the Golden Flyers with a 14-10 advantage. Pinski and Simoneau each collected eight ground balls to give Nazareth a 37-29 advantage in the game. Even when the Hawks' won their faceoffs, Nazareth's midfielders and defenders caused several turnovers before Hartwick could establish its offense. The Golden Flyers recored 13 caused turnovers. Freshman Vincent Parrillo had a game-high five caused turnovers.

Nazareth outshot Hartwick 46-24. Doyle finished with five saves in about 48 minutes of action for the Flyers. Junior Rob Olin contributed three saves in the final 12 minutes. Triano played all 60 minutes in goal for the Hawks, and he recorded a game-high 12 saves.

PITTSFORD, NY- Host Nazareth had 11 different players score goals as the Golden Flyers defeated visiting Hartwick 17-5 on Saturday afternoon. The loss brings Hartwick's record down to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8 while Nazareth improves to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8.

Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) and Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) both scored twice to lead Hartwick. Bobby Cassidy (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) also chipped in a goal. Mike Morrison (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) picked up two assists and Mike Vaglica (Newton, MA/Newton North) had one assist.

Nate DeLone and Kyle Fanning had three goals each to pace the Golden Flyers. CJ Estes and Charlie Mayne both scored twice. Brian Wright, Collin Clark, Chris Aycock, Drew Simoneau, Jeff Christiano, Nick Loscalzo, and John McDonnell all scored one time.

Nazareth raced out to an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter. With time winding down, Morrison hooked up with Hughes who deposited the ball past Nazareth goalkeeper Tim Doyle with just one second remaining to put the Hawks on the board.

It was all Nazareth in the second quarter as the Golden Flyers scored five times to take a 9-1 lead going into halftime.

The Hawks started to chip away at the lead with two goals from Schaefer with the first coming just 29 seconds into the third quarter and the second with 6:17 on the clock to make it a 9-3 game. It would be as close as Hartwick would get as Nazareth scored five straight goals to go up 14-3 at the end of the third.

Hartwick would get two goals early in the fourth quarter and the Golden Flyers scored three times to complete the scoring in the game.

Nick Triano (North Andover, MA/ St. John's Prep) started in goal for the Hawks and stopped 12 shots. Doyle started for the Golden Flyers and had five saves in 47:47 of game time. He was replaced by Rob Olin who played the final 12:13 of the game and had three saves.

Nazareth led in shots, 46-24, and in groundballs, 37-29. The Golden Flyers won 14 face-offs to the Hawks' 10. Nazareth was also 3 for 4 on the extra-man opportunity while Hartwick was 0 for 2.

Hartwick will return home to face Ithaca next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
