Di Fato Scores Seven as No. 2 Cortland Routs New Paltz

CORTLAND, N.Y. Junior Maria Di Fato (Camillus/West Genesee) scored a career-high seven goals, all in the first half, and recorded game highs of seven caused turnovers and six ground balls to lead second-ranked Cortland to a 22-2 victory versus New Paltz Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

With her seven goals, Di Fato became just the 11th player in Cortland history to surpass 200 career points and has moved into 10th place all-time in scoring with 204 points on 148 goals and 56 assists. Senior Erin Kollar (East Islip) also hit a milestone for the Red Dragons (11-1, 4-0 SUNYAC) in the victory. With three goals in the game, Kollar became the 23rd Red Dragon player to reach 100 career goals.

Senior Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) contributed three goals and three assists as a total of 11 Cortland players scored at least one goal. Sophomore Taylor Reh (Miller Place) scored twice, freshman Marilyn Farrell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) had one goal and two assists, sophomore Taylor Robinson (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded one goal and one assist.

Five other players tallied one goal apiece, including freshman Emmalyn Osterling (Farmington/Victor), who netted the first of her career. Junior goalie Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace/East Islip) made four saves and allowed two goals in 48 minutes, 23 seconds before giving way to sophomore Courtney Morgan (Locust Valley), who stopped two shots and did not allow a goal over the final 11:37.

Freshmen Carissa Citro (Miller Place) and Lianne Valdivia (Kingston) led the Hawks (5-8, 0-4 SUNYAC) with one goal each. Senior goalie Stefanie Mignone (Farmingville/Sachem East) registered 14 saves, all in the first half, in 38:06. Freshman Jackie Ulanoff (Northport) played the final 21:54 and turned aside two shots. Citro also collected four draw controls, while Valdivia recorded three.

The Red Dragons tallied the first 15 goals in the game, seven off Di Fato's stick, before Citro scored from the free position at 2:35 of the first half to put New Paltz on the scoreboard. Di Fato registered her 200th career point when she capped off a three-goal run at 23:05 of the first half. Cortland pushed the lead to 18-1 early in the second half with Kollar hitting her 100th career goal at 27:16. After Valdivia netted a free-position goal at 22:28, the Red Dragons closed the game with the final four goals as Cortland emptied its bench.

Abbott, Kollar and senior Jordan Miller (Liverpool) were honored prior to the start of the game.
