Queens Victorious over Pfeiffer on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. With 1:48 on the clock, senior attacker Shannon Casey fired a ball into the back of the net leading Queens past Pfeiffer on Senior Day. The Royals won 10-9 improving their conference record to 4-2 (7-9). The Falcons record falls to 4-2 in the league and 8-7 on the year.

Brittany Philip led the Royals recording a hat trick, while Brittany Barnwell, Paige Fisher and Casey each netted two. Casey also notched an assist giving her three points on the day. Kristi Kemp led the Royals with five ground balls, while Akasha Kasper and Barnwell each scooped up four. Leading in draw controls with three apiece was Casey and Philip. Casey also collected three caused turnovers with Allie Rhodes.

Shannon Bonnel led the Falcons' scoring efforts with four goals. Liz Melesh chipped in with three goals and two assists for five points. Katherine Athens led all on the field with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Kemp put Queens on the board first with a score at 26:41 before Pfeiffer's Bonnel evened things up two minutes later. The Royals then answered with three consecutive goals to go up 4-1 with 12:07 to play in the first. Pfeiffer made a push in the final nine minutes netting three in a row to tie the game back up at 5-5. Two additional goals scored by Philip and Barnwell of Queens would give the Royals a 7-5 lead at the break.

Pfeiffer stayed on Queens' heels in the second equalizing the game at 9-9 with 21:02 to play. Neither team would score another goal until Casey's game-winner at 1:48.

The Royals outshot Pfeiffer 28-23 and scooped up 27 ground balls as a team. Pfeiffer edged Queens in draw controls 11-10. Taking the win in goal was senior Chelsea Lancashire who collected nine saves. Jamie Alcala took the loss in goal for the Falcons with five saves.

Queens will return to the turf next Saturday in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Shannon Casey's second and final goal of the day with 1:48 remaining in regulation propelled Queens to a 10-9 victory over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday.

The win pushes the Royals to 7-9 overall, 4-2 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 8-7, 4-2. The loss likely gives Pfeiffer the fourth and final seed in next week's tournament.

Kristi Kemp started scoring on the day 3:19 in while Shannon Bonnel responded two minutes later for Pfeiffer. After three-straight goals from Queens, the Lady Falcons started playing catch up with a Kristina Anderson goal at the 9:46 mark of the first.

Three minutes later, Liz Melesh scored back-to-back while Britton Muir tallied her first to square the match 5-5. Late strikes by Brittany Philip and Brittany Barnwell would put the Royals up two, 7-5 at the half.

Another quick tally by the Royals started second half play before Bonnel brought the Lady Falcons to within one after two-straight goals 59 seconds apart. Casey would then score the first of her two with 22:54 to play before Melesh and Bonnel rounded out scoring for Pfeiffer.

Bonnel finished with a game-high four goals for the Lady Falcons while Anderson and Melesh each registered a pair of assists.

Pfeiffer will now play their regular season finale on Wednesday night at Catawba beginning at 7:00 p.m.
