Maritime Drops Conference Contest at Mount St. Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (April 14, 2012) Maritime played a solid first half up at Mount St. Mary on Saturday, as the teams went into halftime tied 8-8, but the Blue Knights took control in the second half to seal a 15-9 victory at their Synthetic Turf Field. The Privateers drop to 1-8 (0-6 Skyline) on the season, while MSMC improves to 5-9 (2-4 Skyline).

Senior Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) led Maritime with four goals on the afternoon. Freshman Tessa Jardine also had four points, but on two goal and two assists, while senior Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) recorded two goals and an assist. Sophomore Megan White (), In goal, senior Laura Palino (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) recorded 16 saves.

Play was back and forth throughout the entire first half, as Mount got on the board first and then Maritime answered. The Privateers took their only lead of the day, 5-4, after Jackson scored two-straight goals at 18:22 and 17:30. Jardine had a hand in the second of those two, which was Jackson's hat trick goal. Maritime would fall behind 8-6 with 5:38 to go in the half, but Jardine and Jackson both scored before time expired to even the score at eight.

The Blue Knights came out strong in the second half and scored six unanswered goals to grab a commanding 14-8 lead. Saporito then scored the Privateers' last goal of the game, before Nicole Palmieri scored her second goal to close out the scoring.

Mount St. Mary's Kaileen Spadaro scored a game-high five goals, while Ela Igdeler chipped in with a goal and two assists. In net, Lauren Beltrami got the victory with four saves.

Maritime returns to action Wednesday night, April 18, when they play host to Skyline Conference opponent Sage. That night, the Privateers will honor their seniors with a special ceremony before the game. Festivities are set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
