Chestnut Hill Beats Cazenovia, 7-16

Chittenango, N.Y. – Losing momentum in the second half, the Cazenovia College Wildcats women's lacrosse team lost 7-16 to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College on Sat., April 1. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 0-4 on the season. Chestnut Hill moves to 2-5 in 2006 with the win.

The Wildcats stayed close with the Griffins in the opening half of the first stanza. Responding to an early Chestnut Hill advantage, Alexandra Huban ('09, New Woodstock, N.Y. / Shaker HS) tied the game, 4-4, at the 13:34 mark of the first half, on a free-position goal. Chestnut Hill would regain its lead, and rattled-off the next four goals, to pull ahead, 4-7, with less then a minute to go in the half.

Huban, who scored a team-high four goals, finished the game with five points and scored three of the first four Wildcats' goals.

Cazenovia's Alison Bonanni ('06, Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca HS) answered in the final seven seconds of the first half by scoring a goal that shifted the momentum in favor of the Wildcats and suggested a Cazenovia second-half come-back.

However, after the intermission, Cali Parrotta ('06, Clay, N.Y. / Cicero North Syracuse HS), who finished the game with two goals and an assist, would get a goal waived off due to a yellow card for a dangerous follow-through. The penalty, which came with 27:39 on the clock in the second half, led to three consecutive Chestnut Hill goals.

Cazenovia's final barrage would fall short due to the outstanding play of the Griffins' keeper, Rosie Gavin, who made ten saves in the second half and 12 in the game.

Cazenovia's keeper, Amanda Kostran ('08, Depew, N.Y. / Maryvale HS), picked up the loss. Kostran, who made eleven saves and allowed 16 goals, is 0-4 in 2006.

Chestnut Hill's Katie Donovan scored a game-high six points. Finishing with five goals and an assist, Donovan also recorded three groundballs.

Parrotta finished with a team-high and season-high eight groundballs in the game.

The Wildcats are next in action on Wed., April 5. Cazenovia plays host to Elmira College in a game slated for 2:00 PM.
