No. 15 Florida Southern Runs by Newberry

LAKELAND, Fla. - In the first ever game against a ranked opponent in program history, the Newberry lacrosse team fell 22-3 to No. 15 Florida Southern.

The Mocs (11-4) tallied early with a goal 28 seconds into the game. After surrendering three straight goals the Wolves (2-9) tallied their first goal of the game when freshman Tessa Davis (Triangle, Va.) picked up a ground ball and took the ball the length of the field for her seventh goal of the season.

Three more Florida Southern goals were followed by a second Newberry goal as freshman Nikki Colwell (Greer, S.C.) found the back of the net to make the score 6-2.

In the second half the Mocs showed why they are ranked No. 15 by jumping out to a 17-2 lead. It wasn't until just over seven minutes remaining in the second half that the Wolves scored a third and final goal when Colwell netted her 27th goal of the season.

The Wolves wrap up their home schedule on Tuesday when Newberry plays host to Erskine at 4:00 p.m.
